About Us

For Amateurs > Montera Hockey Academy

The Montera Hockey Academy is a one-of-a-kind experience for the elite hockey player.

Hockey Development Program

Developed exclusively for Montera Sports by the team at the Peak Centre for Human Performance, the Hockey Development Program focuses on maximizing on-ice skill development and off-ice conditioning.

Montera Hockey ProgramThis program runs from May-August, with July and August consisting of 5 days a week in Ottawa.  Our intent is to ensure that the time between the current “end-of-season” and the next “beginning of season” is strategically used to improve a player’s start in the next campaign.  This could be the start of your Junior draft year, or your first Junior training camp.  No Montera Prospect will ever report to camp unprepared.

Non-Hockey Components

In addition to the Hockey Development Program, the Montera Hockey Academy has key non-hockey components.  One day of each week is reserved for Community Service and Recreation.  The morning might be spent working with the Soup Kitchen.  The afternoon could be golf lessons and a round of golf at a Private Golf Club.  The evening will see us having a “team” dinner at a top-end restaurant.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training will be provided to encourage discipline and self-confidence.

Mandatory part-time summer employment will be provided so that each athlete can understand what it is like to balance work with the love of sport.  The money earned here can be used to help parents cover the cost of the program.

All of these activities are intended to help young athletes develop into well-rounded and responsible adults.  Hopefully they will see how fortunate they are to be blessed with enough hockey talent to be presented with multiple options in life.

2010 Selection Process

In 2010, the Montera Hockey Academy will only be available for males born in 1994 or 1995.  Selective pieces of the Hockey Development Program will be available on an individualized basis for Montera Prospects of other birth years.

We intend to be very selective and only invite players who show extremely good character and work ethic, in addition to hockey talent.  The curriculum will be extensive and involve “hard work”.  Non-compliance with any of the rules regarding dress, punctuality, or conduct will result in expulsion from the Academy.  We are only interested in athletes who are prepared to do whatever it takes to get to the next level.

Only 20 athletes will be invited to attend the Montera Hockey Academy in the summer of 2010.

Our scouts are following a number of players in Eastern Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada.  We will introduce ourselves to the parents of players that we are following and explain our process.  In December, invitations will be sent out.

Our intent is to keep the cost of the Academy as low as possible, while not jeopardizing a player’s NCAA eligibility.

On Ice Speed, Acceleration and Agility Development Phase – Done Weekly

In a typical hockey shift a player will experience 3-4 bursts of hard skating that last 2-3 seconds at a time. Players with the ability to reach top speed in a short period of time have a definite advantage over their opponents. Using cutting edge training techniques like over-speed training, post activation potentiation, assisted and resisted sprinting and anaerobic alactic conditioning this session is designed to improve first step quickness, acceleration, top end speed and speed endurance. By employing equipment typically used in dryland sessions, speed chutes, hurdles etc., on the ice we are able to continually change up the stimulus the athlete receives and ensure their continued progress.

Sessions 1 to 8 – Station work to enforce principles above using 6 area breakdown:

1. Resistance Conditioning
